Nepal is one of the world's most distinctive instant-noodle markets — defined almost entirely by Wai Wai, the Thai brand manufactured locally by CG Foods Nepal since 1992. Wai Wai holds roughly 60-70% of Nepal's instant-noodle market, the highest single-brand dominance in any major national market.
Crucially, Wai Wai in Nepal is eaten predominantly as a dry snack rather than prepared as soup — the noodles are crushed in the pack and the seasoning sprinkled on top, then eaten as a crunchy snack directly. This "Wai Wai culture" is a genuine cultural phenomenon with its own social rituals, youth associations, and a scale of distribution rare for a non-alcoholic shelf-stable product.
Mayos, RaRa, and various imported brands including Maggi and Yum Yum fill out the remaining market share. CG Foods' continued manufacturing investment in Nepal has kept Wai Wai affordable despite rising input costs.
